Speedway Stats

The Kentucky Speedway racetrack near Sparta in northern Kentucky is still making its mark on the state, setting milestones and continuing improvements. Here are a few highlights.
More than 70,000 fans came to see the race on June 16.
The state-of-the-art lighting and electrical system, which Owen Electric Cooperative helped design, continues to provide reliable and efficient power. Several Owen Electric employees are on standby during each race to make sure the power stays on.
More than $1 million was spent on gravel and asphalt to improve the parking lots since last summer.
The Speedway was given part of the credit for boosting tourism spending in northern Kentucky by $100 million last year-the largest increase in the state.

Motorcycling for Charity
If you're a motorcycle rider and would like to join some companions on a 140-mile trip through scenic Kentucky, you can take part in the second annual Touchstone Energy® Motorcycle Charity Poker Run Saturday, September 1. The run begins at Nolin Rural Electric Cooperative in Elizabethtown, then circles through Taylor County Rural Electric Cooperative in Campbellsville, Inter-County Energy Co-op's office in Lebanon, and Salt River Electric Co-op in Bardstown. Other sponsors are Farmers Rural Electric Co-op in Glasgow and South Kentucky Rural Electric Co-op in Somerset. There will be cash prizes for poker hands drawn at the stops and part of the entry fees also goes to support the WHAS Crusade for Children.
