Best Beaten Biscuits

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 5, for a beaten biscuit workshop, 2-4 p.m. at Midway Christian Church in Woodford County. Charles Logan, shown here some 20 years ago, and Helen Rentch, local residents and accomplished beaten biscuit makers, will demonstrate their skills for making those Southern specialties served with country ham. The process and proper techniques vary—as well as opinions. Do you use lard? Crisco? Leavening? Chef Ouita Michel, owner and executive chef of Holly Hill Inn in Midway and other restaurants in the region, helped organize the presentation. The longtime biscuit makers will use antique beaten biscuits machines in the community room of the church, 123 East Bruen Street. Registration is suggested by calling (859) 846-4102, or e-mail office@midwaychristian.org. The event is a fund-raiser for The Homeplace, a new nursing home in Midway, and donations are appreciated.
