Fairs, archaeology, ghost tours, trick-or-treat train, and more


Arts, Crafts, and Antiques
Start your holiday shopping October 5-7 at the St. James Court Art Show, set in charming Old Louisville, featuring 750 exhibitors with more than 200,000 attendees. Also, don’t miss Bardstown’s Arts, Crafts & Antiques Fair, October 13-14, with 200 artists and craftsmen displaying their talents. National Archaeology Day
Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site will demonstrate methods of archaeology on October 20, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., with special activities such as exhibits of tools, laboratory analysis, artifact types, posters, and more to showcase an archaeological field school. Admission to the archaeological site and museum for the program is $3 adults, $2 students. Distillery Ghost Tours
Visit Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort and experience their popular Ghost Tour. Tours are free year-round, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 7 p.m (except October 26). Reservations required; e-mail giftshop@buffalotrace.com or call (800) 654-8471. Reservations are not confirmed until you are contacted back by someone from the Buffalo Trace Distillery staff.

Trick or Treat Train
Tots will love this Halloween train at Big South Fork Scenic Railway. Children’s activities, stories, and lively music put everyone in the mood for trick-or-treating with the merchants in Stearns following the train ride. The annual event has been expanded to include a Fall Festival. It’s only on Saturday, October 13—be sure to wear your costume—with the train departing at
