…a three-day music, media, and ministry experience that includes seven stages (that run simultaneously), more than 120 artists, more than 20 speakers, a skate park, a kid’s zone, featured ministry organizations, camping…

Wilmore, a town of 6,000 in Jessamine County, is having a big bash on Saturday, June 18
—one that features singers Matthew West, Chris Tomlin, and The Almost band, in a first-ever Community Day that will be a highlight to the Christian counterpoint to Woodstock. And all of Kentucky is invited.

The 42nd Annual Ichthus Music Festival gears up for its most ambitious show to date with 100-plus bands, beginning with a pre-festival concert Wednesday evening, June 15 (when people arrive to lay claim to their campground spots), followed by three full days of music and ministry, June 16-18.

The Ichthus Music Festival has been around for more than 40 years, but has kept its innovative edge, attracting approximately 25,000 in years past. It’s a three-day music, media, and ministry experience that includes seven stages (that run simultaneously), more than 120 artists, more than 20 speakers, a skate park, a kid’s zone, a youth-leader tent, a parent tent, featured ministry organizations, food and merchandise vendors, camping, and a lot more, explains Mark Vermilion, CEO of Ichthus Ministries.

Ichthus, the Greek word for fish or an emblematic fish in early Christian and ecclesiastical art, is a Christian ministry founded in 1970 with a mission to “provide students with life-changing experiences of truth through life-changing encounters with Jesus Christ”—not to mention lots of great music.

That ministry hits the stage this year offering 20 percent reduced ticket prices for the second year in a row.

Venues include a thrust stage, added last year, that extends into the audience putting festival-goers up-close and personal with performers. Also back after its successful 2010 debut is The Galleria stage, a coffee house-style venue in a more intimate setting, featuring mostly singer/songwriters.

This year’s impressive roster of talent includes Grammy Award and GMA (Gospel Music Association) Dove Award winners and/or nominees (the latter award being Christian music’s most prestigious honor): Matthew West, Chris Tomlin, Skillet, Family Force 5, Red, LeCrae, and Anberlin.
