Mill Springs Cornbread Festival
The 26th Annual Mill Springs Cornbread Festival will get underway at Mill Springs Park, May 25, 2019 with a full day of activities and entertainment from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Monticello Woman’s Club in cooperation with the Corps of Engineers and the Mill Springs Battlefield Association for the purpose of showcasing Wayne County’s most popular historical sites and providing opportunities for visitors to engage in local culture. Billy Brown, miller, will have the mill open at 9:00 a.m. for tours and will have corn grinding demonstrations at 11:00 a.m.– 2:00 p.m. — 3:00 p.m. Guided tours of the Brown-Lanier House are available until 4 p.m.
For a real cultural experience come for lunch, 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The aroma of hoe cakes cooking on the griddles indicates Pinto Bean and Cornbread are being served. The hoe cakes are made from meal ground a few days prior to the festival, and the soupy Pinto Beans, well-seasoned with country ham and slow cooked to perfection, are served with condiments and a beverage. Alternately, hot dogs with the trimmings and a beverage are available. A complementary homemade dessert is provided with the purchase of the Pinto Bean or Hot Dog meal.
For your browsing and shopping pleasure, the Mill Springs Gift Shop opens at 10:00 a.m. and has Cornmeal, Kentucky Proud products, and many other items of intrigue. Vendors offer a variety of arts and crafts. Entertainment by local artists is provided throughout the day. Miss Historic Mill Springs, Miss Monticello, Miss Wayne County Area, and Miss Monticello Teen have been invited.
