The Race Is On!
Kentucky horse racing traditions are alive at My Old Kentucky Home in April and May! My Old Kentucky Home’s original owners, the Rowan family, ventured into the illustrious business world of horse racing during the early 19th century. John Rowan’s horse Rifle was sired by Shakespeare, one of the most famous foundation bloodlines in horse racing.
This year, My Old Kentucky Home has jockey silks on display from Kentucky’s winningest horse farms, a sparkling collection of original coin-silver family julep cups in addition to the recipe for the PERFECT mint julep (a Derby favorite!), fanciful ladies’ Derby hats, and the story of how the song My Old Kentucky Home, Good-Night! became the official post parade song of the Kentucky Derby. This exhibit highlighting Kentucky’s most famous fun-filled celebration known as the “fastest two minutes in sports” isn’t one to be missed!
