New Hunting And Fishing Commissioner

New Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Gregory Johnson says he’s found his dream job.

“This is not just work or a job for me,” he says. “Fish and wildlife conservation is what I have been committed to my whole life. It is what I do. It is who I am.”

Johnson, an Illinois native who graduated from Eastern Kentucky University, returned to his adopted state after serving in various leadership positions for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. He retired from federal work in 2011 and moved to Lexington afterward.

Johnson says customers are his priority. He emphasizes the importance of hunters and anglers having memorable experiences while enjoying the state’s outdoors. He also believes the department has a responsibility to improve Kentucky’s resources for future generations.
