A Mini-marathon Through Nature

An inaugural trail half-marathon in Red River Gorge on Saturday, September 6, is being hosted by Joe Bowen, a member of Clark Energy Co-op. He has twice bicycled across the entire United States for charity, and is the author of the book Real Winners Don’t Quit. He’s shown here with race director Stephanie Lovely. The cost of “The Rugged Red” 13.1-mile run is $75. Lovely says, “It’s a mix of challenging and technical trails with beautiful views and sights—all gorge trails. We’re hoping this will become an annual happening.” Activities will begin and end at Bowen Farm B&B, 315 Bowen Road in Stanton. A Friday pre-race bonfire with music and s’mores is planned. Shuttles will be available from the farm to the starting line at 6 a.m. Saturday. Get more info at www.ruggedred.com.
