Spotz Gelato is Coming to Midway

Fourth location to open April 9

In time to welcome spring to Central Kentucky, while encouraging small-town tourism, a fourth location of Spotz Gelato is opening soon. The Kentucky-Proud brand will open a sweet shop April 9 on Midway’s historic Main Street. The Midway location marks Spotz Gelato’s fourth brick-and-mortar, the Shelbyville shop opened summer 2020; Georgetown and Versailles opened in 2019.

To be located at 130 E. Main Street, Spotz Gelato opens in Midway as COVID regulations ease across the Commonwealth, “We are seeing increased visits to our locations in Versailles, Georgetown and Shelbyville,” says Spotz Gelato Owner Beth Richardson. “The opening of Spotz Gelato Midway is extra special because we make the products on our farm, which is near the historic town. We spend a lot of time in Midway and look forward to being part of the movement to encourage people to embrace Kentucky’s small towns and small businesses.”

Charity Preview Night is set for April 8, 6-8 p.m. All proceeds from the Charity Night will benefit Woodford Humane Society. The Grand Opening is Friday, April 9 from 3-9 p.m.

All Spotz locations feature a delightful menu for dining inside, take out or curbside. New offerings at Spotz include custom dipped-and-rolled cones and vegan gelato. “After years of people requesting vegan options, we created a delicious vegan recipe that has the creamy consistency of our gelato. We’ll start producing vegan options of our most popular flavors and, eventually, every flavor we create could also have a vegan version,” adds Richardson, who says her No. 1 flavor is Cookies & Cream.

Richardson took a hobby of farming and turned it into a business when she and husband Philip Enlow (pictured) created Spotz Gelato in 2013. Initially sold solely from a food truck, the small-batch gelato and sorbet is made by hand in a commercial kitchen on Richardson’s and Enlow’s farm in Scott County.

With ten flavors offered in the shops on a rotating basis, Spotz’s tantalizing treats include milkshakes, floats, sundaes and sundae boards, Italian Sodas and Affogato (gelato with coffee). In addition to the four shops, there are eight mobile units – vintage trucks, a bike, wagon and indoor mini-bars – that may be rented for events, weddings and private parties throughout Kentucky.
