Supplement to “Holiday Tablescapes”

Here are tablescape tips from Libby Langdon, interior designer and expert commentator on HGTV’s Small Space, Big Style:

•Don’t go out and buy new “stuff.”

•Everything doesn’t have to match.

•Mix natural elements, including magnolia leaves, twigs, and pine cones, with “sparkly and shiny” items like crystal and Christmas ornaments. Says Langdon: “There’s nothing like sending the kids out into the back yard to gather twigs and pine cones.”

•Shine up the silver (coffee service, tea service, etc.) and set it on the table or mantle and mix in greens: garland, sprigs, twigs, branches.

•Time crunched? No silver service? “Even if you just pull out a sugar bowl or creamer and slap some greenery in them and add a ribbon, it spreads the fun holiday spirit that we all want to enjoy,” says Langdon.
