Old-time Fiddling Contest

For 27 years the Kentucky State Championship Old-Time Fiddlers’ Contest has been held to test the skill of fiddlers, a style of fiddle playing learned from family and neighbors in the olden days that continues today. Over the years new contest categories have been added to include mandolin, harmonica, beginner open, bluegrass banjo, flat top guitar, bluegrass band, old-time banjo, old-time string band, jig dancing, peewee fiddler, and back-up musician of the year. Contestants compete for prize money of over $5,000 or studio recording time. The event ends with an exciting Fiddle Off for the coveted Governor’s Cup, held between the finalists of three fiddle categories. This year’s contest will be held July 19-20 at Rough River Dam State Resort Park.
