Gabe DeFewWe extend our sincere congratulations to the inaugural graduating class of the Kentucky Electric Cooperatives Apprenticeship Program. A total of 15 journeyman lineworkers have successfully completed four years of classroom instruction and hands-on training, acquiring the skills, knowledge and safety mindset essential to serve Kentucky’s communities well into the future.
Brady Cox and Gabe DeFew were among the inaugural class. Brady has now earned the distinguished title of journeyman line technician. Gabe DeFew was promoted to journeyman line technician in July 2025.
“Reaching journeyman status is a re-markable milestone that reflects years of dedication, perseverance and professional growth,” says Operations Manager Jeremy Goodman. The apprenticeship program is a demanding four-year program that combines extensive coursework, hands-on laboratory instruction and 8,000 to 10,000 hours of practical field experience.
