30th Annual Daniel Boone Pioneer Festival

Winner of the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top Twenty Events for August 2008 in the Southeast States, the 30th Annual Daniel Boone Pioneer Festival in Winchester is sure to be a winner for the family this Labor Day weekend, August 29-31. More than 30,000 people attended last year.

The fun begins on Friday evening with a street dance at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Winchester featuring Lauren Mink and John Curtis and THE TAMS.

Saturday will consist of a 5K Run, Walk with Friends, talent contest, arts and crafts, and antiques and appraisals.

Admission is free and there are children’s activities available, along with food booths where you can buy your favorite food.

Sunday the fun continues with more arts and crafts, antiques and appraisals, and live music. There will also be displays from the Ft. Boonesboro Foundation highlighting Daniel Boone.

Don’t miss the Sunday evening concert in Lykins Park featuring country music artists Jason Michael Carroll and Luke Bryan. Last year, more than 12,000 attended the Sunday evening concert, so bring a chair or blanket and sit back and enjoy. It will be followed by a fireworks display by Zambelli International.

A prelude and added event to this year’s festival, held two weeks prior, is the Dance-a-thon, which takes place August 15 from 7 p.m.–1 a.m. at the YMCA, 645 Westmeade Drive. The entry fee is $15 each until August 1 or $20 after. There’s a $3 spectator fee.
