The Gardener’s Answer

I hope they’re not all falling! Have you noticed this on different species of plants or on something in particular? Premature leaf drop can be caused by a few factors, including environmental, insects, and/or disease issues. Without knowing what is dropping its green foliage I can’t get too specific. Each plant has its own set of challenges to contend with in terms of insects and diseases.

For example, sugar maples are susceptible to a petiole borer that can cause green leaf drop this time of the year. The fact that the foliage is green and dropping is concerning, especially if we’re talking large quantities.

If this is happening on your property, you should have a certified arborist come out and have a look. You are welcome to send pictures for identification.
