CastleandKey, Frankfort

Businessmen Will Arvin and Wesley Murry made headlines in 2015 by naming Marianne Barnes master distiller of what is now known as Castle & Key. She’s the first female to hold that title at a Kentucky bourbon distillery.

Castle & Key is located on the grounds of the Old Taylor Distillery. Built in 1887, the facility ceased distilling in the 1970s, but has started anew. Honoring its roots and following in the footsteps of Colonel E.H. Taylor, the distillery will produce and sell bottled-  in-bond bourbon.

As of press time, the distillery wasn’t open to the public, but plans are to open the doors in 2017. The distillery is slated to produce several spirits, including bourbon, rye whiskey, and gin.
