Lodge at Greenbo Lake is now open

Lodge Rooms, Restaurant re-open after repairs

GREENUP (May 23, 2017) – Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, state and local officials officially reopened the Jesse Stuart Lodge at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park, following repairs from a fire that closed the building in 2015.

“We’re glad to have the Greenbo Lake lodge back open as one of our 17 resort parks,” Parks Commissioner Donnie Holland said. “I commend the park staff for their hard work and patience.”

A fire on Oct. 4, 2015, forced the lodge to close for repairs. That work uncovered other problems with the lodge roof, forcing the closure to last longer than planned while further repairs were completed.

In addition to the repaired roof, the lodge has new paint, carpeting and flooring. The electrical system, which was the source of the fire, was also repaired. All of the lodge’s guest rooms were painted and updated. Additional meeting space was added as part of the renovation work.

More work on the lodge at Greenbo is planned under the $18 million “Refreshing the Finest” campaign approved by Gov. Matt Bevin and lawmakers in 2016.  Exterior painting and other repairs are planned.

Joining Holland at a ceremony today were Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet Deputy Secretary Regina Stivers, Sen. Robin Webb of Grayson, Rep. Danny Bentley of Russell and Greenup County Judge-Executive Robert Carpenter.

The Jesse Stuart Lodge has 36 rooms, meeting space and the Anglers Cove Restaurant. The park also has a campground, marina, swimming pool and amphitheater, all which remained open. For more information about Greenbo Lake, call 606-473-7324 or visit parks.ky.gov
