Southeast Tourism Society Names ‘The Market’ a Top 20 Event

FRANKFORT (April 19, 2017)—The Southeast Tourism Society has named Kentucky Crafted: The Market one of its Top 20 Events in the Southeast for April 2017.

Produced each spring by the Kentucky Arts Council, this year’s Market is April 21-23 at Lexington Convention Center. The event is in its 35th year. The society’s Top 20 Festival and Event Awards have highlighted programs around the Southeast since 1985.

The Market is the arts council’s signature event featuring the highest quality art, craft, literature, music, and food found in the state. Nearly 200 Kentucky Crafted and select out-of-state artists, musicians, and artisanal food producers make their finest work available to wholesale buyers and the general public during the three-day event.

“We’re honored to once more be singled out by the Southeast Tourism Society for this honor,” said Lydia Bailey Brown, arts council executive director. “Their organization reaches several media outlets, as well as web users, who will all know that we’ve got something special going on here in Kentucky in April.”

Travel industry experts select 20 events per month, and the Southeast Tourism Society publicizes them throughout the United States. The complete list is published on two websites: EscapeToTheSoutheast.com  and Travel Media Press Room

“The Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Festival and Event list is an excellent guide for the Southeast’s visitors, residents, and travel writers. The events selected represent the best, and often most unique, activities in our region,” said Bill Hardman, president and CEO of the Southeast Tourism Society.

Events considered for the STS Top 20 recognition must be at least three years old and have attendance of at least 1,000.

The Market will be 9 a.m.-7 p.m. April 22 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. April 23 at the Lexington Convention Center. Tickets, which include access to all exhibits and activities, are available at the door and are $12, with a $2 discount for seniors ages 62 and over, military members with identification, and Kentucky state employees. Children 15 and under are admitted free with a paying adult. The Market is open to wholesale buyers on April 21.
