1993 Blue Ribbon Recipe Fresh Apple Sour Cream Bread

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2-1/2 cups 50-50 wheat flour
  • 3 cups fresh apples, peeled and chopped into small pieces (approx. 4 apples, Alma recommends Jonathons)
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 cup light sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Directions

 

This recipe won the Land O’ Lakes Sour Cream Bread Bake-Off at the Kentucky State Fair in 1993.

Combine butter, sugar and eggs. Beat well.

Add 1 cup flour to apples, nuts and raisins to coat. Set aside.

Fold remaining ingredients into egg mixture. Fold in apple mixture.

Pour into tube pan and bake at 350′ for 1 hour, or until nice and brown.
