Brown Sugar Pie

  • Serves 8.


  • 1 C brown sugar
  • 1/4 C self-rising flour
  • 1 (12-oz) can evaporated milk
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1/4 C butter
  • 2 Tbsps Karo syrup
  • Meringue
  • 3 egg whites, chilled
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 Tbsp sugar


Mix brown sugar and flour in small saucepan over medium heat. Add enough milk to moisten. Add egg yolks and cream well. Combine remaining ingredients, stirring constantly, until thick. Pour into baked 9-inch pie shell.


Preheat oven to 350 degrees. For meringue, beat egg whites with cream of tartar and slowly add sugar until soft peaks form. Top pie with meringue and bake until golden brown. Cool at room temperature until set.
