Campbellsville’s Civil War Band Festival

Fourteen of the nation’s best Civil War bands will be in Campbells-ville July 25-27 for the Second Triennial National Civil War Band Festival, along with other performers.

This is described as the “single most significant gathering of Civil War bands and musicians since the famed Grand Review of the Armies in Washington, D.C., at the close of the Civil War in 1865.”

Friday events include a lecture series, 12 noon-5 p.m., and opening ceremonies and a reception at 6:30 p.m. Saturday festivities include a parade through downtown Campbellsville at 10 a.m., with band concerts at 12 noon on both Saturday and Sunday. There is a Saturday evening Grand Review held at the University at 7:30 p.m., bringing all participating bands together for a massed band performance conducted by internationally renowned conductor Frederick Fennell.

Most of the events take place on the campus of Campbellsville University. For more information on this event, contact Dr. David McCullough at (270) 789-5058, by e-mail at dmmccullough@campbellsville.edu, or go online at www.campbellsville. edu/ and click on “National Civil War Band Festival Site.”
