Fire The Cannons And Rifles

A Civil War Living History Weekend at Lost River Cave and Valley in Bowling Green will feature more than 100 re-enactors from across the country for the fourth annual “Cannons, Rifles, Food, and Fun” on July 19-20.

Kentucky Chautauqua presents “Abraham Lincoln: I, too, am a Kentuckian,” along with battles, artillery drills, and Civil War skirmishes that will delight all. Visitors will stroll through Sutlers Court to see woodworkers, tinsmiths, along with Sweetladies, Moore Mercantile, and the ever-famous Fry Bread. Visitors will also be able to talk with re-enactors to experience the everyday camp life of soldiers. A schedule of artillery demonstrations and re-enactments will be available at the gift shop.

Saturday evening is a night to not be missed. Events include “Abraham Lincoln: I, too, am a Kentuckian,” a Civil War Social with music and desserts, and a “night fire.” A cannon and musket firing display will take place at 9 p.m. Guests should arrive by 5 p.m. to participate in Lincoln’s speech.

There is no charge to attend the Civil War Living History Weekend, but if visitors wish to tour Lost River Cave on the Underground Boat Tour, admission is $15 adults, $10.50 ages 4-11, and $3.50 for ages 3 and under ($1 off coupon is available online).
