Sweet Taste Of Blackberries

If you’re looking for a true down-home event, complete with blackberry cobbler and ice cream, live music, street dancing, a parade, and the crowning of a queen, you’ll want to attend the Blackberry Festival hosted by Carlisle in Nicholas County.

This festival has a long-lasting tradition as Carlisle has been hosting the Blackberry Festival since 1946.

The festival kicks off Monday, July 4, and runs through Saturday, July 9. Festivities each day run from 6 p.m. until midnight, including live country and bluegrass music each night with street dancing from 8 p.m. until midnight. Along with food vendors, there is also homemade blackberry cobbler with ice cream being served in the town’s restored Neal’s Grocery.

The parade is on Thursday, July 7, beginning at 7 p.m., with the crowning of the queen at about 7:30 p.m.

Get to Carlisle from U.S. 68, on KY Highway 36 East about four miles. For more information, contact Dorsey Watkins at (859) 289-2384.
