The Gardener’s Answer

Peonies of any color are such a treat to have in the garden. Given adequate growing conditions, peonies do very well here in Kentucky. ‘Bartzella,’ ‘Going Bananas,’ ‘Yellow Doodle Dandy,’ and ‘Sequestered Sunshine’ are all yellow blooming Itoh hybrids.

As for locating one, I would start by visiting or calling your local garden centers and nurseries. In some cases, they may be able to order them for you. Farmers markets are also a great place to find unusual plants. Bare root peonies are available from several online mail order sources if you can’t find them locally.

These herbaceous perennials develop a large deep tuberous root system, which makes them difficult to move, so choose their home wisely. Peonies prefer to be planted in full sun with nutrient-rich, well-drained soil.
