What kind of tree is it?

Denise Asked

My mother has a tree in her yard and we were trying to figure out what kind of tree it is.

The Gardener’s Answer

Hi, Denise: Your Mom has a Magnolia tree in her garden. It is such a large genus with it is not possible to say exactly which one she is growing. The flower looks like it belongs to a Saucer Magnolia which is one of the most popular deciduous magnolias. Commonly referred to as a tulip tree, these early bloomers are available in various shades of white, pink and purple. They all prefer full to medium light and fertile, well-drained soil.

I hope this is helpful.
