- 1 small head cabbage
- 3 Tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1 Tablespoon bacon fat
- 2 Tablespoons water
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Pepper to taste
Melt half of butter in a heavy saucepan.
Add cabbage and toss until cabbage is well-coated.
Add bacon fat and water and simmer, covered, for 20 minutes.
Add nutmeg, flour, salt, and pepper.
Add rest of butter and continue to cook over low heat, stirring, 5 more minutes.
