- 1 cup sugar
- 4Tablespoons flour
- 2 cups milk
- 4 egg yolks, slightly beaten
- 1/2 stick butter or margarine, melted
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 pie shells, baked
- 4 egg whites
- 4 teaspoons sugar
Preheat oven to 375°.
Sift sugar and flour together.
Beat eggs in with milk and gradually stir in milk to sugar and flour mixture.
Add butter or margarine and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
Cool and add vanilla.
Pour into 2 prebaked pie shells.
Beat egg whites and add sugar gradually, until stiff peaks form.
Spoon meringue on top of pies, sealing at edges.
Bake until meringue is golden brown.
You may also add coconut for a great coconut pie.
