Hiking Tygart Gorge
Head out Saturday, June 16, for a 7-mile hike at Carter Caves State Resort Park, Olive Hill, through an old homestead once inhabited by a well-known moonshiner, crossing Tygart’s Creek on foot, then across a swinging bridge, and through four natural bridges. You must bring required equipment (list provided upon registration) and a sack lunch. Cost is $10, pre-registration required. Family Fun Day
Join family-friendly activities on Saturday, June 9, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wickliffe Mounds. Visitors can tour the archaeological museum and explore the Mississippian Indian mounds and Woods Walk Trail. There will be demonstrations of pottery, primitive technology, stone tools, crafts, Mississippian foods, Native American games, and archaeology at the education station. Cost is $5 adults, $4 children. 400 Mile Yard Sale
The 400 Mile Sale across Kentucky’s Scenic Byway, U.S. Historic Highway 68, runs May 31-June 3. Dozens of communities, hundreds of yard sales, antique shops, food vendors, and fund-raisers participate in this world-famous four-day event. Towns added this year are Paris and Puryear, Tennessee, and Hazel and Murray, Kentucky, along Highway 641, which connects to Highway 68 at Aurora. Clean Comedy Tour
You will laugh and laugh at Henry Cho, a nationally known comedian who is Asian but has a southern accent (he is American-born from Knoxville, Tennessee). Cho earned the nickname “Mr. Clean” for his always-clean comedy. A fund-raiser for St. Camillus Academy, Cho’s comedy act will be held at The Betty Hamilton Theater at Corbin High School on Friday, June 29, 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door.
